Oppo’s Find X series started out with one of the most innovative form factors on the market. We were all impressed by the original Find X (2018)’s hidden sliding camera system, which allowed for a stunning all screen design. This was a rare find and the Find X name does not reflect such an innovative, futuristic approach. The series has evolved and is now a serious competitor to the. main Android flagship phones You can find them at Google and Samsung.

The Find X5 Pro didn’t look all that different to the Find X3 Pro It did not replace the Find X4 that came before it, but it did make key improvements over its predecessor. Can we expect another iterative release of the Oppo Find X6 series? Or are we in for more exciting changes as we look ahead to that series? Here’s everything we know so far.

Is there an Oppo Find X6 series available?

While there’s been no official word yet from Oppo on the Find X6 series, leaks have already started to emerge so we can be pretty sure it’s on the cards. Although Oppo avoided the Find X4 name, there’s no reason to think it won’t go with the Find X6 designation for the next series. You never know — Oppo could surprise us all and go with a whole new marketing direction. But as things stand, our money’s on a Find X6 series. It’s likely to consist of a regular Find X6, a cheaper Lite option, and the top-of-the-line Find X6 Pro to succeed the Find X5 Pro. There could be a Neo model, too, but that didn’t happen in 2021 so we’re less sure about that.

When will Oppo Find X6 be released?

We don’t have a confirmed release date for the Find X6 series of devices, but we can make an educated guess by looking at the years gone by. The Find X3 Series was announced in March 2021. The Find X5 series, which was announced in March 2021, was made public in February 2022 and made available the following month. This means that we can plan for March 2023 to launch the Find X6 Series with a reasonable amount of certainty.

Regardless of when it launches, don’t expect an official release in North America. Despite growing popularity in Europe, Oppo’s flagships have yet to hit the US market.

What features and specifications will the Oppo Find X6 series offer?

Until November 2022, information about the X6 series was scarce. The first leaks regarding the specifications of the Pro model were revealed. According to leaks, we can also expect a significant departure in aesthetics from previous entries in this series.

Specifications and features

Yogesh Brar Oppo Find X6 Pro

The first info drop Thanks to Yogesh Brar, who shared the tip an initial spec list on Twitter. Much of it is unsurprising, like the inclusion of Qualcomm’s next flagship processor — all but confirmed to be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 — and the same 50W wireless charging as the Find X5 Pro. The most intriguing tidbit is the apparent use of Sony’s one-inch IMX989 sensor for the phone’s main camera. This sensor is also found in Xiaomi’s 12S Ultra It promises improved low-light photography, as well as better portrait shots. Although the 50MP ultrawide sound familiar, the 50MP zoom lens is a significant upgrade. Since the X5 Pro was let down by its 13MP, 2x optical telephoto shooter, it’s reassuring to learn that Oppo will likely be using new hardware. The leak also points to a 32MP selfie camera — presumably the same as before — and Hasselblad tuning once again.

The Find X5 Pro was let down by its weak telephoto camera, so it’s reassuring that Oppo is likely opting for more powerful zoom hardware this time around.

Elsewhere on the X6 Pro, it’s a familiar story — a 6.7-inch LTPO OLED display, 5000mAh battery with 100W wired charging, and a next-gen Marisilicon X2 image signal processor. The configurations include 8GB and 12GB RAM with 128GB/256GB/512GB storage options. It will be shipped with the following: Android 13-based Color OS 13, with which Oppo introduced its new “aquamorphic” design language (lots of blue and white, essentially).

Design

There’s very little to go on when it comes to the prospective design of the Oppo Find X6 series, but Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station has shared a diagram on Weibo This suggests a rearranged camera layout at the back. If correct, this means that the consistent design language we’ve seen for the past two releases will make way for a round camera module that’s reminiscent of recent Xiaomi and Honor devices (not to mention the whole host of other phones that have used this design in recent years).

This is a shame because Oppo had a distinctive look for its two Find X Pro devices. The phone stood out from the rest with its unique curved ceramic rear that blended into the raised camera module. While it’s disappointing that the Find X6 Pro looks set to move away from that unique visual motif, we can still expect premium materials and build quality, as with any high-end Oppo device. First CAD renderings of the Find X5 Pro surfaced in December 2021, so we can expect further confirmation of the X6 Pro’s design in the coming months.

What will the Oppo Find X6 Series prices be?

There’s no news on pricing — official or otherwise — for the upcoming Find X6 series yet, but we can look to last year’s models to give us an idea of what to expect. The following were the starting retail prices for each:

  • Oppo Find X5 Pro — £1,049 / €1,299 (~$1,239)
  • Oppo Find X5 — £749 / €999 (~$884)
  • Oppo Find X5 Lite — £419 / €499 (~$495)

Oppo’s pricing for the Find X5 series wasn’t super competitive, so we’d love to see it come down a bit next time. Similar prices are more likely in reality. Hopefully, we won’t see the kind of price hike Apple applied to its newest iPhones, especially since we’ve not seen the same from Android phone manufacturers this year. You never know, though — if costs have gone up for Oppo, we may see that passed on to consumers.

Oppo Find X6 series: What do we want to see?

The Oppo Find X6 Pro scored highly in our review, but there’s still room for improvement if Oppo’s flagship really wants to go toe-to-toe with Samsung’s Galaxy S range and Google’s Pixels. Here are the main things we’d like to see when the new phones land.

A more competitive camera system

Of the Find X5 Pro’s three rear cameras, the primary and wide-angle lenses were both impressive, even if the main camera tends to oversaturate colors on occasion. Oppo’s zoom lens was a disappointment. We hope that this is where Oppo will focus its camera improvements for Find X6 Pro. Oppo needs a periscope with a higher optical zoom than its predecessor to be able to compete with its rivals. The leaked diagrams suggest this may be possible, so keep your fingers crossed.

Flat display

This one is always controversial, but many users and reviewers found the Find X5 Pro’s curved display frustrating. I’ve never been a fan of overly curved edges because of the distorted colors and content, even though I will admit they feel nice to the touch. It’s probable that we’ll get the same display for the Find X6 Pro, since that’s what the leaked specs suggest, so don’t expect this wish to come true.

Software experience improved with less bloatware

The problem of bloated software with too many options and apps is one we’ve long had to contend with when it comes to Chinese phones, and Oppo’s devices are no exception. The Find X6 Series will launch with Color OS 13 and its updated aquamorphic design style. It’s sure to look pretty and perform snappily, but if Oppo can do away with some of the unnecessary bloat and simplify the software experience, that would go a long way to making the Find X6 series a success.

Oppo would be a great help in making the Find X6 series a success if it could get rid of some of the bloatware and simplify the software experience.

Although the company has made significant progress with its Android skin in recent times, European users would appreciate a slimming down of it.

Lower price

It’s hard to recommend spending more than £1,000 on any smartphone, especially when you can get a Google Pixel 7 Pro for £849 (and possibly even less when the Find X6 Pro is released). Oppo would be wise to lower its prices if it wants to remain competitive. That’s obviously difficult to do without making certain tradeoffs, but sister brands OnePlus and Vivo were able to bring down the prices of their most recent flagships, so let’s hope this is a company-wide direction that Oppo’s Find X6 series will also move toward.

A US release

As with most Chinese smartphones, we don’t expect the Oppo to release the Find X6 series in the US, no matter how much we’d like to see it happen. This will be a second one for European and Asian markets. But we can still hope!
